Zerkalo – Andrei Tarkovsky. An old time favourite.
When I first saw the film I felt awe. The Iron Curtain was still a reality and I grew up behind it. I watched the film then and there.
Now I’m living in the West and I can say I have SEEN both worlds. Sometimes it feels as if I had come from a different universe. One that doesn’t exist anymore. Watching the movie now enhances that feeling.
I remembered the sublime performance of Margarita Terekhova, the beautiful shots, the absence of the colour red, the slow pacing, the delicate fabric of memories.
It is appropriate to see this film now; now that the past is fading away and becomes a memory, deficiently coloured by emotions.
If you watch this film here, please take your time, be patient. Consider that you are looking at the work of an extraordinary filmmaker, a remarkable talent.
Let the film do what it can do, let it overwhelm you.
