Recently I visited an exhibition about the beginnings of photography in the 19th century. Famous photographs and famous photographers.
Among others; the galloping horse, a series of pictures by Muybridge.
These were the first attempts to study movement with a revolutionary new technique. Photography was used to explore. Ultimately this strive led to the invention of film.
There was such inspiration and progress at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. In all fields: fine arts, science, architecture, literature, music; everything seemed to advance just to end up in a violent, dark chapter of human history.

I hope so heartily, it is a fiery wish, that the 21st century – in spite of an unsatisfying and unpromising moment right now – will turn out to be a worthy continuation.
