Sometimes when something impressing happened to me I took a picture, or a picture was taken of me. It is possible that nothing really happened; that I just saw something visually striking. So I took a photo. Being a photographer, it was quite natural for me to see the world around me through the lens. Due to physical disability, I cannot carry on with this profession.
Now I realize that in some cases, it is the photograph I remember; not the reality I witnessed. I didn’t notice I was making memories. I always was searching for the appeal of the seen. That made me concentrate on the most important element in what I saw. This was an essential step in my education as a filmmaker. Without knowing it, the way I was observing changed. These days I try to implement this in writing.
